Harris, McCurley named Bullard ISD Teachers of the Year

Bullard ISD recently named Lori McCurley and Meagan Harris as the district’s 2022 Elementary and Secondary Teachers of the Year.

Lori McCurley

McCurley, a fifth-grade teacher at Bullard Intermediate School, is the Elementary Teacher of the Year. She says being a teacher is about cherishing all the things that come with the role.

“Being a teacher means cherishing all the things. All the good and all the bad. All the ups and all the downs. All the laughs and all the tears,” McCurley said.  “As a teacher, you enter into the lives of each and every child who has been placed in your care, and for that, you are honored and never take the role lightly. Being a teacher means you spend more time with your students and colleagues than you do your own family, and you gladly juggle both because you cherish ALL the things.”

Meagan Harris

Harris, a Family Consumer Sciences teacher at Bullard High School, is the Secondary Teacher of the Year. As a teacher, being there for her students, coworkers, and community is essential in positively impacting their lives.

“Being a teacher means to me being there for my students, coworkers, and community,” Harris said. “When I became a teacher, I did not realize the impact the students would have on my life and I on theirs. They are truly my kiddos. Teaching is a challenging career, but worth it when you impact that one student.”

Mrs. McCurley and Miss Harris will next compete for Regional honors against other school district nominees in Region 7. Regional winners will then compete against other regional winners from across Texas.

"Bullard ISD is truly fortunate to have some of the best teachers in Texas, and these two outstanding educators represent the best of the best," Superintendent Dr. Jack Lee said. "Daily, we get to see both provide a future-focused education, develop meaningful relationships with students and fellow teachers, and model integrity, character, and servant leadership. I cannot express how proud I am of them both, and I know they will represent Bullard ISD well as our nominees for Elementary and Secondary Teachers of the Year."
