Bullard FFA students, chapter earn big honors at state FFA convention
Bullard FFA students and the chapter received high honors at the 96th annual Texas FFA State Convention held July 8-12 in Houston.
Logan Carlile, Chayton McCurley, and Avery Clayton were each awarded the Lone Star FFA Degree, the highest degree of membership an FFA student can receive from the Texas FFA. The Lone Star FFA Degree recognizes FFA members who have received the Chapter degree, been active FFA members for at least two years, completed at least four semesters of agricultural science at or above the ninth-grade level, maintained a supervised agricultural experience (SAE) program, demonstrated their leadership skills, and have shown a commitment to the FFA through involvement at the chapter level and above. Carlile, McCurley, and Clayton were among more than 2,300 FFA members who received the honor.
Bullard FFA also had a student compete in the Texas FFA State Rodeo Finals. KaliJo Bannister participated in two events, Break Away Roping and Barrel Racing. She won 1st place in both rounds of the Break Away Roping with times of 2.7 seconds and 3.2 seconds for the catch. The performance earned her a Superior Buckle and a $1,000 Scholarship. In the Barrel Racing event, KaliJo earned 2nd place in round one and 1st place in round two, putting her 3rd in the average of times. KaliJo's excellent performance in the Rodeo arena grabbed Bullard FFA Chapter a 2nd place finish overall.
The Bullard FFA chapter was selected as a Gold Emblem Chapter through the National Chapter Award Program. The National Chapter Award Program recognizes FFA chapters that actively implement the mission and strategies of the organization. These chapters improve chapter operations using the National Quality Chapter Standards (NQCS) and a Program of Activities that emphasize growing leaders, building communities, and strengthening agriculture. Chapters are rewarded for providing educational experiences for the entire membership.
Bullard FFA was one of only 25 chapters out of nearly 1,100 chapters across the state to receive Gold Emblem Chapter recognition.
