Seniors Serving Seniors: Bullard High School seniors spend the morning helping out seniors in the community

If you drove around the Bullard community this morning, you may have noticed school buses in front of homes with high school students scurrying about. The senior class of Bullard High School participates in a yearly outreach event called Seniors Serving Seniors. They spend a morning visiting with local senior citizens and helping them with yard work or small repair projects. This loved tradition has been going on for six years now.

The Seniors Serving Seniors event is an excellent opportunity for graduating seniors to connect with the community that has supported them throughout their educational journey in Bullard ISD.

According to Associate Principal Chris Pawlak, "Seniors Serving Seniors is one of our favorite traditions at BHS. The Bullard community is very supportive of our schools. Our seniors enjoy showing their gratitude by helping meet the needs of our local senior citizens."

This year, the Class of 2024 assisted local senior citizens at 16 locations with projects that included mowing, trimming trees and shrubs, exterior painting, pulling weeds, and basic repairs to steps, decks, ramps, and fences.

Senior Chloe LaGrone was excited for her turn to participate in this tradition. "It is so nice to get out here to help and show gratitude however we can. Seeing the older seniors before us was honestly pretty iconic to me. I felt it was so cool and nice of them. Knowing I am doing this now feels like an amazing opportunity for us as students and the seniors we serve today. I think this tradition should not only continue but should continue to grow as well.”
