Bullard ISD students Joel Hilton, a 10th-grader, and Claire Duncan, a 4th-grader, participated in the East Texas White Cane Day Walk on Friday, Oct 24, 2024

White Cane Day, also known as Blind Americans Equality Day, celebrates the independence the white cane provides to the visually impaired and raises awareness of the White Cane Law, which requires drivers to identify and yield to pedestrians using a white cane or a dog guide at street crossings.

Additionally, this day honors the achievements of people who are blind or have low vision and celebrates the white cane as a powerful symbol of independence. The white cane not only empowers individuals to travel safely and confidently but also serves as a reminder of the importance of accessible environments and public awareness.
