Bullard Bond 2022 Update: Bullard ISD updates renovation plans for old middle school to serve early education grade levels

Bullard ISD is excited to share an update on Bullard Bond 2022 renovation plans for the former middle school campus.

To best serve the students of Bullard ISD, the location will be renovated to become an Early Childhood campus, housing Early Childhood Special Education services, Pre-K, Kindergarten, and 1st grade. The district had previously planned to renovate the building to serve 3rd, 4th, and 5th grades.

Bullard ISD Board of Trustees approved the change at its March 23, 2026, regular monthly meeting.

What this means for grade levels once renovations are complete:

  • The old middle school will house Early Childhood Special Education services, Pre-K, Kindergarten, and 1st grades.
  • Bullard Elementary/Primary Campus will house 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th grades.

Interim Superintendent Jan Hill shared that this decision was made after carefully reviewing student enrollment and campus capacity.

“After reviewing our student numbers and the building’s capacity, we believe this is the most efficient use of space and taxpayer resources,” Hill said. “This plan allows us to better support our students while also planning for future growth. The project remains within the budget approved by voters in May 2022 and is expected to be completed by August 2027.”

During the board meeting, trustees reviewed enrollment numbers and building capacity across the campus locations that currently serve Pre-K through 5th grades. The data showed that even with constructing additional classrooms at the old middle school to accommodate 3rd, 4th, and 5th grades, the building would be at capacity within a few years. By grouping 2nd through 5th grades together at the larger Elementary/Primary campus, Bullard ISD can better accommodate future growth. The capacity numbers of the Early Childhood grades align with existing space at the old middle school while still allowing room for growth.

After collaborating with school administrators and staff, architects will begin the design phase. The project is estimated to be complete by August 2027.
